About our Principals

Rakesh Bharania

Rakesh has spent more than 30 years in the US public safety and international humanitarian sectors, focusing on the intersection of emerging technologies and crisis response. Most recently he was a Digital Humanitarian Advisor for USAID's Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance. Additionally, he has led cybersecurity, privacy and humanitarian efforts at Cisco, Apple and Salesforce, with a focus on the effective, equitable and protective use of technology in fragile contexts.

He has responded to more than 50 emergencies, including the September 11, 2001 attacks and Hurricane Katrina in the United States, the earthquakes in Haiti and Japan, Cyclone Pam in Vanuatu, the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, the Syrian refugee crisis in Europe, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the war in Ukraine.

Loren was most recently the Executive Director for Bainbridge Prepares, where he served in that role for 6.5 years.

During Loren's tenure, Bainbridge Prepares was recognized at the Washington State, US, and international levels for its preparedness leadership. Organizational awards include the 2022 International Association of Emergency Management Voluntary Organization of the Year, the 2021 Bainbridge Community Foundation Humanitarian Award, and numerous others.

Personal awards to Loren have included from the City of Poulsbo as a "Healthcare Hero" in 2022 as well as Computerworld's "Premier IT Leaders" in 2013 (among others).
